For two years, small pharmacies heard the same date: November 27, 2026. Then, in August, FDA changed it. Here's what changed, who it affects, and what to do now. On August 6, 2026, FDA extended the small dispenser exemption by one year. The electronic requirements now apply to small pharmacies on November 27, 2027. But there's a catch. The new extension only covers pharmacies with twenty-five or fewer full-time pharmacists and technicians on November 27, 2026. If you grew past that, your deadline is still November 2026. And the extension only covers the electronic part. Buying from authorized partners, keeping records, and handling suspect product already apply to every pharmacy. Do you need to apply for the extension? No. FDA says small pharmacies using it don't need to submit anything. It does suggest telling your wholesaler. Your next step: count your team today, and find out which deadline is yours. Our free DSCSA compliance training for small pharmacies walks you through every step, with a checklist you can print.
